FAQ

How do I get connected for an appointment?

Clients may click on the email link on our home page and leave a message. Our email address is cocoprofs@gmail.com. Dr. Smith may be contacted by phone at 1-303-246-7559. When leaving an email or phone message, it is helpful to leave the insurance or Employee Assistance Program coverage you will be using if not paying privately, and a brief statement about the presenting concerns you may be having. If you leave a phone message and have not received a response in 24 hours, please send a follow-up email to cocoprofs@gmail.com.

What level of training do Colorado Counseling Professionals therapists have?

Dr. Smith has a Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology and is licensed to practice psychology in Colorado.

How long does therapy take? How frequently are clients seen for appointments?

Clients typically begin therapy by being seen about once a week. Some clients continue to be seen weekly for some time. Other clients may reduce the frequency of their appointments once they begin to see improvement. There is no standard length of time that someone will spend in therapy. Some clients discontinue treatment when they feel the issue they presented with is resolved. Other clients may decide to work on additional issues and continue scheduling with their therapist. Some clients prefer to continue to come in longer-term because the periodic connection they have with their therapist helps “keep them on track”. You are your own best guide to the length of time you spend in therapy.

Can I use my health insurance for counseling?

Dr. Smith accepts insurance. You can see which insurance our therapist accepts by clicking here. If we happen not to take your particular insurance, you can still be seen and we would be considered an out-of-network provider in that case. Out-of-network coverage is generally not as high as in-network coverage, but can still often offer savings over paying out of pocket.

How does insurance work for mental health counseling?

Most health insurance companies today will have some coverage for mental health treatment. Every individual or family plan will provide coverage at different levels. Some plans will simply have a co-pay or co-insurance (where the client pays a percentage of the contract rate). Other plans will have deductibles that must be met before lower co-pay or co-insurance rates kick in. Clients are encouraged to call the customer service number on their insurance cards and ask about their outpatient mental health coverage before their appointments. Also, it is a good idea to make sure Dr. Smith and/or Colorado Counseling Professionals are listed as providers.

Can I use Employee Assistance Program benefits for counseling?

Many workplaces also offer their employees what is known as Employee Assistance Program coverage. Clients who have this coverage are typically provided coverage for anywhere from 2-8 appointments at no charge to the client. Prospective clients can check their benefits to see if their company provides this coverage. We are happy to accept EAP benefits if we are contracted with the group managing your EAP. You typically just need to let your EAP organization know we have an appointment set up and they will give you an authorization number and tell you the number of sessions you are eligible for. Family members of the employee are usually also eligible for EAP benefits.

Does Colorado Counseling Professionals assist with billing?

As a courtesy, Colorado Counseling Professionals will bill insurance companies and Employee Assistance Programs directly for our clients. We are not obligated to do so, but provide this service as a convenience for our clients. Though CCP will check your coverage as well, clients are always responsible for the cost of services not covered by insurance. We have had occasions where insurance companies have communicated to us that clients had certain coverage only to learn after billing that the coverage was different. Clients who have deductibles need to be prepared to pay the full contract rate at the time of service until their deductible is met. The contract rate will vary depending on the insurance company.

What are your rates for clients who prefer not to use insurance?

Our standard rate for clients who prefer not to use insurance or who may not have insurance is $100 per session, with some exceptions based on the ability to pay.

How long is each appointment?

The typical appointment is approximately 50 minutes in length. Therapists spend time after the appointment documenting the session, including making notes to prepare for that client’s next appointment.
